Become a science teacher in middle (Years 8–9) and senior (Years 10–12) school with a Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Science.
This program prepares you to practise as a secondary teacher in Queensland. The education component develops professional knowledge and practice through courses on campus and at a variety of school/education sites. The science component develops a background in chosen disciplines. You take studies in two teaching areas from biology, chemistry, English, health, marine studies, mathematics, physical education, physics, science, and studies of society and the environment.
The University also offers a Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Business.
Post-admission requirements
You must complete a minimum of 80 days of supervised field experience, completed as full-time blocks. One major supervised field experience must be completed in a Queensland school. You are required to complete 100 hours of wider field experience. A Suitability Card is required, refer to Requirements for placements.

Professional recognition
Graduates may register with the Queensland College of Teachers. Registration is a requirement to teach in Queensland schools.
Requirements for placements
The Commission for Children and Young People Act (2000 and 2005) applies to all pre-service teachers who will be working with children/students under the age of 18 in Queensland settings as a component of their program of pre-service education. Blue Cards are issued by the Commission once it has carried out the Working with Children Check to see if a person is eligible. If a person is eligible, they are issued a positive notice and a Blue Card.
Education students are encouraged to apply for their Blue Card as soon as they have accepted their offer to avoid processing delays. Blue Cards are free of charge for Education students when they apply through the Professional Workplace Learning office (Level 2, Building C).
