Rules for majors and minors

  • A major consists of eight courses, a minor consists of four courses.
  • Students may select courses which contribute to any major or minor offered in the university providing they comply with the requirements of the degree program in which they are enrolled.
  • No double-dipping: No course may be counted towards more than one major or minor.
  • Courses credited to a student's academic record through cross-institutional studies or as advanced standing may also count towards majors and minors where those courses are equivalent to courses listed in the relevant major or minor.
  • For students who are awarded a named variant of the Bachelor of Science (ie Public Health, Environmental Science, Sport and Exercise Science, Biomedical Science, and Microbiology and Biotechnology), the corresponding named major will not be recorded on their academic transcript. For example, a student graduating with a BSc(Public Health) will not have the major Public Health recorded on their academic transcript.
  • The required prerequisites must be completed before enrolling in advanced courses.
