Our community

At UniSC we promote sustainability and health and wellbeing as a way of living. It influences how we teach, learn, educate and collaborate on campus, in the community and around the world.

Health and wellbeing

UniSC promotes a safe and healthy community, connecting people to health support and information.

Healthy lives

We operate under the World Health Organisation Health Promoting Universities framework and are guided by the Okanagan Charter: An International Charter for Health Promoting University and Colleges. We encourage better connectivity between health services and support both on and off campus. Linking people to community health information and services, gets them to the right support, at the right time, for improved health outcomes.

Supporting sexual health

UniSC students have free access to sexual health and reproductive service providers and resources in our campus regions. We educate students on how to protect themselves and their sexual partners from sexually transmissible infections, access to contraception and STI testing and treatment services.

We link to government and community health information services for our culturally diverse student group and distribute sexual and reproductive health information and resources at orientation activities each semester.

Mental health support

UniSC provides one-on-one and self guided support for mental health and related health issues. There's on campus counselling services and self-guided resources, linked with community service providers, are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the Student Portal.

We tackle society’s most topical issues, like youth mental health through research, using the latest in neuroscience to achieve new insights.

For diversity and equality

We are committed to actions to promote diversity and equal access to education. Diversity Week brings the community together in a celebration of our diverse community and culture.

Access to education

At UniSC there's opportunity everywhere, and we provide support to promote education and lifelong learning for all.

Retaining local talent

Our students don’t need to leave home to get a world-class education. UniSC’s five campuses spread across South East Queensland means more regional students have study, research and employment opportunities right on their doorstep. Our graduates are invaluable to their local communities, with seven out of ten UniSC graduates staying in the regions to contribute to their social and economic prosperity.

Better pathways to higher education

Support and educational programs like UniSC's Equip Workshops help students from all walks of life to take the first steps to study. Flexible study options allow students to more easily juggle their responsibilities with student life. Pathways and bridging  programs give students the confidence and skills they need to get studying and succeed.

Equal access to education

UniSC has programs and support and help people overcome barriers to entry to education. We encourage lifelong learning,  and the opportunity to learn for all, regardless of background or personal circumstance. UniSC's programs and support improves accessibility and eligibility and financial support and scholarships helps remove financial obstacles to participation.
