Associate Degree in Arts

Pursue an alternative entry pathway to an arts degree at USC.

Gain a broad-based education in arts and social sciences, consisting of core and introductory courses and two minors. Study in areas such as communication studies, computer-based design, drama, creative advertising, creative writing, English, geography, history, Indigenous studies, justice, languages, legal studies, politics and international relations, public relations and sociology. Entry is guaranteed to the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Social Science at USC on completion.

Program requirements

In order to graduate you must:

  • Complete 2 core courses.
  • Complete 3 required introductory (100 level) courses.
  • Complete 2 minor study areas (4 courses per study area).
  • Complete 3 elective courses.
  • Complete no more than 10 introductory (100 level) courses, including the core courses.
  • Complete no more than 3 courses from the School of Business or Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering.
  • Register your selected minors with Student Administration.
Program notes
  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses).
  • Required introductory courses may count toward some minors.
  • Students commencing mid-year (Semester 2) can only satisfy the requirements of the Indonesian, Italian or Japanese minor, if they are exempt from Indonesian A, Italian A or Japanese A.
  • It is highly recommended that students consider enrolling in relevant enabling courses.
  • Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods including essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations. Not all courses will necessarily include all methods.
  • As part of your USC program, you may apply to participate in the Global Opportunities (GO) Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider. It is advisable to contact your Program Advisor to discuss timing and course issues.
  • Only a full-time study option is available to international students on a Student Visa.
