Arts majors: 3D design; Australian studies; counselling studies; communication studies; creative advertising; creative writing; drama; development studies; e-media design; English; geography; graphic design; history; human services; Indonesian; Italian; Japanese; journalism; justice studies; politics and international relations; psychology; public relations; sociology.

Career opportunities

Depending on the major selected, applied sociology, community and welfare services, ecotourism, journalism, media, multimedia design, interpreting / translating (with further study), policy development, psychology (with further study), public administration, public relations, publishing, research, teaching (with further study).

Membership

Eligibility for memberships depends on areas of specialisation.

Program requirements

In order to graduate you must:

  • Complete 2 core courses.
  • Complete at a minimum 1 major (8 courses) from the School of Communication or School of Social Sciences.
  • Complete at a minimum 1 minor (4 courses) from the School of Communication or School of Social Sciences.
  • Complete 10 elective courses.
  • Complete no more than 10 introductory (100 level) courses, including the core courses.
  • Complete no more than 6 courses from the School of Business or Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering.
  • Register your selected Major and Minor with Student Administration.
Program notes
  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses).
  • You may wish to use electives to complete an additional major or minor to supplement the required major and minor.
  • Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods including essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations. Not all courses will necessarily include all methods.
  • As part of your USC program, you may apply to participate in the Global Opportunities (GO) Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider. It is advisable to contact your Program Advisor to discuss timing and course issues.
  • Only a full-time study option is available to international students on a Student Visa.
