Program overview

This program offers an alternative pathway to the Bachelor of Science and related programs at USC. It offers those who may have a limited background in science, a general introduction to the foundations of a range of science disciplines, core knowledge in science specialisation/s, and it promotes the development of academic and scientific skills to allow you to articulate with confidence into a Bachelor of Science or related program for further in-depth study.

Program structure

To graduate from the Associate Degree in Science, students must complete 16 courses consisting of:

Core courses

Select 2 courses from:
COR109 Communication and Thought
COR110 Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship
COR111 Environment, Technology and Sustainability

Science introductory courses

1 required course:
SCI110 Science Research Methods
Plus select 3 introductory (100 level) courses from the Faculty of Science, Health and Education. These courses must not include NUR or EDU coded courses.

Science specialisation courses

Select 1 specialisation (8 courses) from:

Electives

Select 2 elective courses from the Faculty of Science, Health and Education, Arts and Social Sciences or Business.

Enabling courses

It is highly recommended that students considering enrolling in relevant enabling studies:

Enabling courses:

  • do not incur any fees for Commonwealth-supported students
  • do not affect a student’s Student Learning Entitlement (SLE)
  • do not count towards the completion of an undergraduate program
  • are only available to students enrolled in an undergraduate program

As part of your USC program, you may apply to participate in the GO Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider
