In this dual degree you undertake initial study at TAFE Queensland (Nambour campus) and complete the degree at USC.

The diploma course is divided into core and elective study areas. Core modules provide you with a broad skills base and conceptual understanding of essential photographic concepts. Subjects include communication skills, computer operations, financial administration, and marketing. The specialisations listed contain sets of modules based on the specific skills and knowledge necessary for employment in a particular industry sector. The bachelor component provides a complementary theoretical grounding in arts and social sciences. Refer to the Bachelor of Arts for more information.

Please note that is full-time program commences only in Semester 1 each year. New students are not required to complete any USC courses until they complete their TAFE diploma.

Teaching mode

There are different teaching modes between the TAFE diploma modules and the University’s Bachelor of Arts courses. Diploma modules are face-to-face teaching with performance-based assessment. The University’s Bachelor of Arts courses include three or four hours of contact per course per week, generally in the mode of a one-hour lecture and two-hour tutorial. Students complete a further six to seven hours of self-directed learning per course per week. The self-directed learning consists of readings, research, assignments and other assessment items.

Program requirements

In order to graduate you must:

  • Complete 13 required courses and 3 electives.
  • Complete at a minimum 1 major and 1 minor from Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
  • Complete no more than 10 introductory level courses, including core courses and courses credited from study at TAFE.
  • Complete no more than 6 Faculty of Business or Faculty of Science, Health and Education courses.
  • Register your selected Major and Minor with Student Administration.
  • Present your completed Diploma of Photoimaging to enable 8 courses (96 units) of transfer credits to be applied to your academic record.
Program notes
  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses).
  • Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods including essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations. Not all courses will necessarily include all methods.
  • As part of your USC program, you may apply to participate in the Global Opportunities (GO) Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider. It is advisable to contact your Program Advisor to discuss timing and course issues.
