The Bachelor of Arts is a flexible program that allows studies in a wide variety of specialisations in arts, humanities and social sciences.

In this program you gain a broad, versatile education, and learn skills in critical thinking and analysis that are essential to many careers. You choose from a variety of discipline areas, enabling you to design a degree to suit your personal interests and career ambitions. The program also provides a basis for entry into an education degree and is a springboard to postgraduate study.

Career opportunities

Depending on the major selected, applied sociology, community and welfare services, ecotourism, journalism, media, multimedia design, interpreting/translating (with further study), policy development, psychology (with further study), public administration, public relations, publishing, research, teaching (with further study).

Professional recognition

Students and graduates may become members/associate members of various Australian professional bodies depending on their study specialisations.

Program requirements

In order to graduate you must:

  • Complete 14 required courses and 10 electives.
  • Complete at a minimum 1 major (8 Courses) and 1 minor (4 Courses) from Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
  • Complete no more than 10 introductory level courses, including core courses.
  • Complete no more than 6 courses from the Faculty of Business or Faculty of Science, Health and Education.
  • Register your selected Major and Minor with Student Administration.
Program notes
  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses).
  • You may wish to use electives to complete an additional major or minor to supplement the required major and minor.
  • Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods including essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations. Not all courses will necessarily include all methods.
  • As part of your USC program, you may apply to participate in the Global Opportunities (GO) Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider. It is advisable to contact your Program Advisor to discuss timing and course issues.
  • Only a full-time study option is available to international students on a Student Visa.
