UniSC supports water conservation off campus through several initiatives:

Community Collaboration: UniSC collaborates with local stakeholders and communities to manage water resources effectively. This includes projects like the Integrated Water Management (IWM) initiative, which aims to optimize water use and conservation in the broader community.

• The Sunshine Coast BioBlitz 2023, held over three weekends in October, engaged 200 citizen scientists and 32 expert team leaders in biodiversity surveys and environmental conservation activities. UniSC supported this event by collaborating with ECOllaboration and other local environmental organizations to promote water conservation and sustainable practices. This initiative highlights UniSC’s commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship.

Educational Programs: The university offers educational programs and workshops that focus on sustainable water practices. These programs are designed to raise awareness and provide practical solutions for water conservation to local residents.

• UniSC developed the online course "Life Below Water: Conservation, Current Issues, Possible Solutions" on the Future Learn platform, one of the modules focuses on water conservation. It has had over 1,900 people enrol since 2021.

Research and Development: UniSC conducts research on water management and conservation, often involving community participation. This research helps develop innovative solutions that can be applied both on and off campus.

• Five years of research using new remote sensing technology has measured the successful restoration of 200 hectares of abandoned sugar cane farmland back to thriving wetland supporting water conservation for the community.

Public Engagement: UniSC hosts public lectures, conferences and events that address water management issues, providing valuable knowledge and practical solutions to the community.

• The K’gari Land and Sea Country: djaa-ngarawinj Conference, co-hosted by UniSC and FIDO, focused on water and ocean conservation by bringing together researchers, Traditional Owners, and stakeholders to share knowledge and collaborate on sustainable management practices for K’gari and its surrounding Sea Country
