UniSC is dedicated to fostering community engagement and promoting health and well-being by sharing its state-of-the-art sports facilities with the local community. UniSC’s sports precinct, which includes the UniSC Arena, aquatic center, athletics track, and various playing fields and courts, is accessible to local schools, sports clubs, and the general public. This inclusive approach ensures that community members of all ages and abilities can benefit from high-quality sports and fitness amenities, encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle.

One of the standout features of UniSC’s community engagement is the UniSC Arena, a $24 million indoor sports facility that hosts a variety of local sports events and training sessions. The arena is home to the Sunshine Coast Lightning, a national netball team, and also serves as a venue for local school sports competitions and community sports programs. By providing a space where professional athletes train alongside grassroots participants, UniSC fosters a supportive and inspiring sports community that drives excellence at all levels.

In addition to the arena, UniSC’s aquatic center offers Olympic-standard swimming facilities that are used year-round by both recreational swimmers and elite athletes. The center includes a 50-meter heated pool, a 25-meter pool, and various recovery pools, making it an ideal location for swimming lessons, community swim meets, and fitness programs. These facilities not only support the development of local swimming talent but also promote water safety and physical fitness among community members.

UniSC’s commitment to sharing its sports facilities extends to its outdoor playing fields and athletics track, which are available for use by local sports teams and schools. These multipurpose fields cater to a range of sports, including rugby, football, cricket, and athletics, providing ample opportunities for community engagement and physical activity.

Several teams, including Rugby Union, Swimming, Football, Cricket, Australian Wheelchair Basketball use the facilities at no cost. UniSC Sports have many local community partnerships, including a sport-based program to raise educational aspirations in students from low socio-economic backgrounds, community events for child bike training, and safety.
