In this program you choose studies in arts and social sciences, and science to develop a varied skill base and increase your career options. You can combine complementary specialisations such as human services and public health, or psychology and sport and exercise science. You have a diverse range of subject areas to choose from. Arts and social sciences studies are available in more than 20 specialisations. Science courses are drawn from any of the majors / minors offered by the faculty. Arts majors: 3D design; Australian studies; communication studies; counselling; creative advertising; creative writing; e-media design; English; geography; graphic design; history; human services; Indonesian; Italian; Japanese; journalism; justice studies; politics and international relations; psychology; public relations; sociology.

Science and health majors: biomedical science; biotechnology; clinical measurement; environmental health; environmental science; health promotion; public health; sport and exercise science; sustainability.

Program structure

Program requirements

In order to graduate you must:

  • Complete 15 courses from the School of Communication and School of Social Sciences, 15 courses from the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering, and 2 core courses.
  • Complete no more than 5 introductory level courses from the 15 required School of Communication and School of Social Sciences courses. Two additional introductory level language courses can be included to bring the total of the introductory School of Communication and School of Social Sciences courses in a combined degree to seven introductory level courses.
  • Complete no more than 5 introductory level courses from the 15 required Science, Health, Education and Engineering courses.
  • Complete 6 elective courses from the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering, including a minimum of 3 advanced (200 and 300 level). These must not include NUR or EDU coded courses.
  • Complete no more than 192 units of introductory level courses in total, including core courses. 
  • Complete a Major and a Minor from the School of Communication or School of Social Sciences
  • Complete a Major from the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering
  • Register your selected Majors and Minors with Student Administration.
Program notes
  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses).
  • Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods including essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations. Not all courses will necessarily include all methods.
  • As part of your USC program, you may apply to participate in the Global Opportunities (GO) Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider. It is advisable to contact your Program Advisor to discuss timing and course issues.
