This program has a practical focus and offers specialisations in many information and communication technology areas. You learn every phase of developing and architecting a software system, from initial planning and design through to actual programming, team management and associated business issues. Tasks include: constructing networks; creating software packages; the creation, management and deployment of databases; and networking, telecommunications and integration of diverse systems. Internships offer industry experience with successful information technology companies.

Program requirements
In order to graduate you must:
- Meet the Maths prerequisites for entry to advanced statistics and maths courses in Year 1 of the Bachelor of Software Engineering. This is necessary so that you will be able to cope with the advanced simulation and mathematical modelling courses required for the industry studies component of the degree.
- Complete a minimum of 24 courses including all core and required courses listed below, and electives.
- (Optional) Use Electives to complete a minor.
- Register any selected Minors with Student Administration.
Program notes
- Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses).
- Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods including essays, seminar presentations, reports, in-class tests and examinations. Not all courses will necessarily include all methods.
- As part of your USC program, you may apply to participate in the Global Opportunities (GO) Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider. It is advisable to contact your Program Advisor to discuss timing and course issues.
