Program overview

The Bachelor of Business develops skills applicable to many areas of employment and provides you with a general education on which to build a lifetime career. Our business degree has nine specialist areas from which you can choose:

You can also complement your business studies by studying up to four courses in other faculties, for example, you can study languages, business communication, computer-based design, or ecosystem management.

Professional membership

Students and graduates may become members/associate members of various Australian professional bodies depending on their study specialisations.

Career opportunities

Knowledge and skills acquired through the Bachelor of Business are transferable across many sectors such as government, education, the arts, commerce, and industry. Depending on the major and minors chosen, opportunities may include accounting, advertising, auditing, banking and finance, computing, customer service, hotel management, human resource management, importing/exporting, industrial relations, management, marketing, politics, retail and sales, systems analysis, taxation and tourism.

Advanced courses

Select 15 courses total

Students undertake a further 15 courses (a minimum of 9 courses must be from Business and a maximum of 6 courses may be selected from faculties other than Business) in one of the following formats.

The recommended structure for the 15 courses, in addition to the 2 core courses and 7 business foundation courses, for a Bachelor of Business is:

  • 1 x 8-course major plus 1 x 4-course minor plus 3 elective courses

This structure gives indepth knowledge in one discipline area (major), combined with broad knowledge in a second business area (minor), and general or specific interest knowledge in niche areas (electives).

However other structures are possible and include:

  • 1 x 8-course major plus an additional major where one course is common to both majors, or
  • 1 x 8-course major plus 7 elective courses, or
  • 3 x 4-course minors plus 3 elective courses, or
  • 2 x 4-course minors plus 7 elective courses (not recommended).
Course substitution: the GO (Global Opportunities) Program

As part of your USC program, you may apply to participate in the GO Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider.
