Program Overview

A Bachelor of Science gives you the flexibility to choose from a wide range of specialisations, allowing you to design a degree to suit your interests and career ambition.

You can undertake science-based studies entirely within the Faculty of Science, Health and Education or incorporate a limited number of courses from the faculties of Arts and Social Sciences or Business.

You can enrol in first year science courses covering biology, chemistry, environment and health, biodiversity, cell metabolism, research design and data analysis, physics, as well as the two core University courses.

Professional Membership

Graduates may become members/associate members of various Australian professional bodies depending on their study specialisations.

Career Opportunities

If you choose to enter the workforce rather than proceed to graduate studies you may obtain employment in biomedical research and education, biotechnology, community health, environmental education, environmental health, environmental protection, government departments, medical marketing, sport and exercise research, sports promotion, and waste and pollution control.

Advanced Courses

A minimum of 14 and maximum of 18 advanced courses (200 and 300 level courses) are to be included in the Bachelor of Science. (Refer to note 13 below)

Course Substitution: The GO (Global Opportunities) Program

As part of their USC program, students may apply to participate in the GO Program to undertake courses with an overseas higher education provider

Program Requirements and Notes

  1. Both Core Courses must be completed within the first two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) enrolment.
  2. A minimum of 6 and maximum of 10 introductory courses may be completed, including Core Courses, in the BSc.
  3. A minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 introductory Science courses (100 level) are to be included in the BSc.
  4. One course will contain a component of research design and data analysis. The course will usually be SCI110 Research Design and Data Analysis, but other, alternative courses, as approved by the program coordinator, may be completed. (Subject to program coorodinator approval.)
  5. A minimum of 14 and maximum of 18 advanced courses (200 and 300 level courses) are to be included in the BSc.
  6. A minimum of 5 of the advanced courses included in the BSc must be completed from the Faculty of Science, Health and Education 300 level (third year) courses.
  7. A maximum of 6 courses from outside the Faculty of Science, Health and Education (72 units), other than the Core Courses, may be included in the BSc.
  8. No course may be counted towards more than one major or minor area.
  9. Courses credited to a student's academic record through cross-institutional studies or as advanced standing may also count towards majors and minors where those courses are equivalent to courses listed in the relevant major or minor.
  10. An introductory level course has a number less than 200 in its course code. An advanced level course has a number greater than 200 and less than 400 in its course code.
