Program overview

This program offers an alternative entry pathway to the Bachelor of Science and related degree programs at USC.

It offers those who may have a limited background in science a general introduction to the foundations of a range of science disciplines. You will also have the opportunity to undertake specialised studies by completing a major (eight courses) in one of the following areas:

By developing the academic and scientific skills necessary for undergraduate study, you will be able to articulate with confidence into a Bachelor of Science or related program.

USC also offers an Associate Degree in Arts and an Associate Degree in Business.

Program structure

To graduate from the Associate Degree in Science, students must complete 16 courses consisting of:

Core courses

Select 2 courses from:
COR109 Communication and Thought
COR110 Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship
COR111 Environment, Technology and Sustainability

Science introductory courses

1 required course:
SCI110 Science Research Methods
Plus select 3 introductory (100 level) courses from the Faculty of Science, Health and Education. These courses must not include NUR or EDU coded courses.

Science specialisation courses

Select 1 specialisation (8 courses) from:

Select 2 elective courses from the Faculty of Science, Health and Education, Arts and Social Sciences or Business.

It is highly recommended that students considering enrolling in relevant enabling studies:

Enabling courses:

  • do not incur any fees for Commonwealth-supported students

  • are only available to students enrolled in an undergraduate program
