Program overview
The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (Science Communication) offers the unique opportunity for students interested in the field of science to develop skills to facilitate communication with a wider public audience. The combined program will suit those with an interest in the specialist science areas of biomedical science and health, sport and exercise science or environmental science, enabling them to pursue studies and develop knowledge in the areas of professional writing, public relations, journalism, news production, creative writing, publishing or advertising.
The program, taught and developed in cooperation with industry, has a practical focus emphasising professional communication and includes an industry-based project as a final-year course. You are taught in small workshop groups and mentored by industry professionals. Practical laboratory sessions and fieldwork may also contribute to the studies in science, depending on the science major chosen. .
Career opportunities
Career opportunities exist in both the private and public sector including advertising, corporate communication, creative writing, ecotourism, film and television writing, marketing, media research, medical sales, professional biomedical writing, public relations, scientific journalism and publishing, sport or health journalism, and website editing.
