Program overview

The Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) provides students with a contemporary and historical understanding of international politics. It examines dimensions of other societies including their political, cultural and economic systems. The focus of this degree is on learning about cultures, languages and systems of government, and the complex relationships within the international arena.

While gaining a specific knowledge of international politics and business, graduates also develop a range of skills relevant to management, administration and research jobs in the public and private sectors. These include communication, policy and political analysis, research, and strategic planning for management and marketing.

Career opportunities

Knowledge and skills acquired through the Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) are transferable across many sectors such as government, education, the arts, commerce, and industry. Depending on courses chosen, opportunities may include defence, domestic and international media, electorate assistant, foreign affairs, government, intelligence, international business, international management, international marketing, interpreting/translating, policy or political adviser, research, teaching (with further study), and tourism.

Program requirements and notes

1. No more than 10 introductory courses are to be completed, including core courses in the Bachelor of Arts (International Studies).
2. No courses may be counted towards more than one major or minor.
3. Required introductory courses may count towards some majors and minors.
4. A maximum of 6 Business or Science, Health and Education courses (72 units) can be included in the Bachelor of Arts (International Studies).
5. If you choose a minor (4 courses) in International Business, the electives must be used to complete the relevant prerequisites required for advanced International Business courses.
6. If you choose a minor (4 courses) in International Business, elective courses can be used to complete an additional minor in a language.
7. An introductory level course has a number less than 200 in its course code. An advanced level course has a number greater than 200 and less than 400 in its course code.
