Program overview

The Master of International Business is designed to equip graduates with the essential skills and competencies in management and business administration that are essential for those who aspire to reach the top of their profession.

The program, consisting of 12 compulsory courses, is built from the four-course Graduate Certificate in International Business and the eight-course Graduate Diploma in International Business resulting in a comprehensive qualification.

Courses in the program cover accounting, economics, management, finance, law and marketing. Many of these courses incorporate case studies of problems encountered in workplaces and industries.

Admission requirements

An undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised higher education institution is the minimum requirement for entering the Master of International Business program. No work experience is required.

Applications are also invited from candidates who do not have an undergraduate degree. These applications will receive special consideration from the Dean of Business, who has the discretion to waive the educational requirement if it is considered the candidate is likely to be successful at postgraduate study and would benefit from the program.

Applicants whose first language is other than English must demonstrate an appropriate level of English proficiency by providing evidence of one of the required qualifications.

Advanced standing

Students with an undergraduate degree

No advanced standing will be granted to students with an undergraduate qualification, however, substitution will be permitted in certain circumstances.

Students who have completed two or more courses on a single topic may be able to substitute that same Master of International Business course for another. For example, if a student has completed a major in Accounting, they can replace Accounting for Managers with a course from the Master of Financial Planning or similar.

Students with postgraduate qualifications

Students who have completed postgraduate subjects elsewhere may apply for one course of advanced standing up to a maximum of 50 percent for the Master of International Business, Graduate Certificate in International Business and the Graduate Diploma in International Business. The content of the courses would need to overlap University of the Sunshine Coast course content by least 70 percent.

Only students who have completed a Graduate Diploma in International Business at another recognised higher education institution will be eligible for eight courses of advanced standing.

The Master of International Business courses are grouped into two clear parts, or stages, that must be completed in a set order as a student progresses through their Masters studies, thus allowing the courses in the second part to build on knowledge gained in the first part.
