Program Overview
Tourism is one of the world's largest and fastest growing industries. In Australia alone, the tourism industry employs 535,000 (6 percent of Australia's workforce) and is expected to generate 160,000 new jobs in the next 10 years. And what better place to study tourism than on the Sunshine Coast - one of Australia's prime tourist destinations?
The Bachelor of Business (Tourism) provides you with specialised knowledge on the tourism industry with an emphasis on people skills, lifelong learning, effective communication, teamwork and innovative use of technology. With a focus on both sustainable tourism and tourism enterprise, the University of the Sunshine Coast is well placed to offer a contemporary degree that provides students with a great opportunity for success in this dynamic industry.
Graduates are well placed to play an important part in the expansion of the tourism industry, in large or small enterprises, private or public organisations. By studying tourism you have choice, flexibility and control, and you will graduate with a highly marketable degree.
Students can apply to undertake first-year courses in this program at the USC Noosa Centre. Please note that the option to study at Noosa is not available to international students.
Professional Membership
Students and graduates may apply to the Australian Tourism Research Institute, the Pacific Area Travel Association, the Tourism Association of Australia and the Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education.
Career Opportunities
Knowledge and skills acquired through the Bachelor of Business (Tourism) are transferable across many sectors such as government, education, the arts, commerce, and industry. Depending on majors and minors chosen, opportunities may include hospitality (accommodation, restaurants, bars, clubs and catering); tourist attractions (natural and built attractions; events, festivals, leisure, sport and other special interest tourism activities; retail goods and services); tourism distribution (wholesale tour enterprises, tourism booking services and meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibition enterprises); tourism support (government tourism organisations in development and planning, information and marketing, non-government organisations, tourism education and training organisations) and transport/travel (air, maritime and ground).
