Sport and exercise are a huge part of Yolandie Weir’s life. As well as being a student and mum to two boys, she’s an Australian record-holding weightlifter in three under-49kg women’s categories, a personal trainer, and a strength and conditioning coach at the Brisbane Lions’ AFL youth academy.
“Before I was studying at UniSC, I was working with a high-risk special-needs client, which really opened my eyes to the possibilities that existed for me out there through sport and exercise science. To provide someone with a better quality of life or help them become more self-sufficient is such a heart-warming experience.
“Once I discovered my passion for it, I knew I had to learn more, which is when I applied to study at UniSC.
“What I really love about studying at UniSC is the flexibility in learning. It’s not just about reading from a textbook – it’s learning about what you’re interested in. I’m always getting sucked down wormholes searching for more information about a topic one of the lecturers has talked to us about.”
