Bachelor of Criminology and Justice student

My Dad’s a cop so I always had that interest in law. There were always police journals about when I was growing up and I remember that although they were very graphic, I couldn't put them down.

This course is great if you have an interest in social justice and crime; why it happens and how you can be a part of the solution.

I’m really enjoying it and love the Justice side of it. The introductory courses in Criminology are very broad. Next semester we are going into policing and sentencing. On the Justice side, it’s all about the law, legal organisations and how the courts work.

We visited the local Magistrates and District courts to watch the law in action. It was a great experience to see all our theory in practice. We’ve also made a visit to a maximum-security prison. The Criminology Student Institute (CSI) on campus at USC is comprised of the students and has the support of the uni to do things, such as the prison visit, that will benefit you.

I spend a lot of time in the library studying, but it’s such a great place to be able to go and get a coffee. I even bump into my lecturers and have a chat. It’s friendly, supportive and challenging without putting too much stress on you.

There are so many jobs in criminal justice I had never heard of or even considered. My dream is to work as a criminal barrister and I would love to go overseas and study and work in New York.
