Scholars at Risk

The UniSC Chapter of Scholars at Risk and Australia Section working groups in the areas of Protection, Advocacy and Learning

Each year, thousands of scholars and students face the risk of violence, wrongful prosecution, and other restrictions on their freedom due to their academic speech, research, writing, or teaching. Scholars at Risk (SAR) is a network of over 500 higher education institutions, associations, and individuals that aim to protect these people. Our goal is to promote academic freedom through hosting, advocacy, research, and learning initiatives. SAR believes that critical discourse is vital to the academic world, and individuals should have the right to share ideas safely and freely.

Established in 2000, SAR is hosted by New York University with a mission to protect members from violence and coercive attacks. As a part of the SAR network, UniSC assists in preserving the integrity of the higher education community and allows for evidence-based approaches that solve problems and resolve conflict.
