Brain scientist’s free tips to keep your mind sharp

People can learn how to keep their grey matter in good shape as they get older at a free talk by USC Associate Professor of Psychology Mathew Summers this weekend.

Dr Summers, a neuropsychologist who specialises in ageing and dementia research, will present ‘Good Health and the Ageing Brain’ from 10.30am-noon on Saturday 6 November at the Strathpine Library.

His presentation will provide tips on how people can fight off the decline of brain functions that lead to cognitive problems such as memory loss.

Dr Summers said his talk would focus on understanding healthy ageing and dementia, and how the two are fundamentally different.

“It will look at factors that contribute to healthy ageing, abnormal ageing (such as mild cognitive impairment and dementia), and what factors may help slow the ageing process,” he said.

The talk is part of the Moreton Minds series, a partnership between Moreton Bay Region Libraries and USC. It is suitable for all ages.

Bookings are required.
