USC to hold online Open Day on Sunday 19 July

Prospective students from across Australia will be able to participate in USC’s Open Day on Sunday 19 July – regardless of which borders are open or closed – as the event will be provided online for the first time.

USC will become the first university in Queensland to hold an Open Day in such a COVID-safe way, encouraging people to visit its website instead of its campuses for this year’s annual event.

From 9.30am to 12.30pm AEST, USC staff and students will be available for online chats about the degrees on offer and what life is like at the University.

There will also be a wide range of presentations, including question-and-answer video sessions, step-by-step guides on how to apply to study, and virtual tours of USC’s facilities on its campuses from Fraser Coast to Moreton Bay.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) Professor Joanne Scott said the event aimed to provide those interested in studying at USC and their families with a personalised experience similar to what they would have enjoyed if coronavirus restrictions were not in place.

“Open Day has always been an opportunity for people to have a look around campus, find out all they need to know about our study programs, and gain a better understanding of what’s involved in being a university student,” she said.

“Thanks to the immersive online approach we’re using, they will still be able to do all of these things this year without having to leave their homes.

Professor Scott said this year’s Open Day would provide great information for senior high school students and those eager to start new careers as the nation recovers from the impacts of the COVID-19 lockdowns.

She said people who register in advance would receive updates about what to expect and how to make the most of their online Open Day experience.
