Engineering graduate builds his own career path

Joshua Beehag built his own career path while studying Honours in Civil Engineering at USC.

The Redcliffe 24-year-old turned work experience at Pavement Management Services during his degree into a job.

The national company engineers sustainable and reliable road infrastructure to meet the needs of the community for the lowest social, economic and environmental impact.

Joshua was already employed at its Warana office on the Sunshine Coast when he officially graduated at the recent USC ceremony, held a few suburbs away.

“I enjoy working with very experienced engineers and my knowledge is ever-expanding,” said the Redcliffe State High School graduate.

“My daily tasks involve data analysis for pavement surveys, interpreting collected data and working in a team to deliver projects.”

Joshua said his USC Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) greatly assisted his work performance.

“My tasks directly expand on work done in my thesis topic, which focused on improving pavement management technology and involved a lot of data analysis,” he said.

“It's reassuring to see that I can use knowledge gained in my studies in my day-to-day job.”

Joshua chose USC because of the coastal environment and the new facilities and technology on campus at Sippy Downs.

“During my time at USC, what I liked most was the people,” he said.

“The lecturers and support staff were caring and willing to take time out of their own days to help me achieve my goals. The students were friendly and happy to participate in group activities, which is essential in the real world.”

Applications are now open via QTAC to study at USC next year, when the University will also open its new Moreton Bay campus with a state-of-the-art foundation building and almost 50 degrees. For information on how to apply to USC, go to www.usc.edu.au/learn
