Abby Davidson’s dream of becoming a teacher has started to become a reality with the OP3 student enrolling to study at USC’s Caboolture campus.

The Northpine Christian College graduate from Burpengary said her decision to study a Bachelor of Primary Education was influenced by her mother’s career and by her own experience as a tutor.

“Mum was a teacher, so she had a really big influence on me,” Abby said.

“One of my fondest memories is helping her in the classroom when I was 12. I think I loved it so much because I just like helping people.”

Abby said she had developed a real passion for teaching after spending the past three years tutoring a local primary school student.

“Tutoring is what really made me want to become a teacher,” Abby said. “It was just so rewarding to watch someone’s confidence grow as their grades improved.

“When my student texted me to say she got an A on her last test, it made me so happy.”

Abby, who has already completed some university subjects through a headstart program, said she chose to study at USC’s Caboolture campus because it offered the opportunity to connect well with fellow students.

“I feel like everyone gets to know each other there, so it becomes like a little family,” Abby said. “That’s why I wanted to study at a small campus.”

Applications are still open to study at USC in 2018.
