Study science at USC Fraser Coast

A Science degree that can open doors to a diverse range of careers will be offered through the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Fraser Coast campus from the start of next year.

Enrolments are now open through QTAC for USC’s Bachelor of Science, which is designed to give students the flexibility to focus on the areas of science that interest them the most.

Associate Lecturer in Science Dr Sarah Windsor said students could complete the first year of the degree at Fraser Coast before studying the remaining subjects at USC’s main campus at Sippy Downs.

“In their first year, Fraser Coast students will have access to high-quality, face-to-face teaching close to home to gain a strong foundation in chemistry, biotechnology, biology, ecology, mathematics and food and biosecurity,” Dr Windsor said.

“Afterwards they can decide where they want their science degree to take them with a choice of majors.”

Dr Windsor said students would learn practical scientific skills in USC’s laboratories and gain hands-on experience during field studies.

“USC’s Science program offers majors and minors in traditional scientific fields, so that students will graduate with a wide depth and breadth of scientific knowledge,” she said.

“There are excellent opportunities for students to further their studies and undertake rewarding research to make a real difference in our world.”

Science is one of five additional degrees offered by USC Fraser Coast in 2017 that will allow students the flexibility to undertake their first year of university locally. The others are Social Work, Counselling, Psychology and Social Science.

USC also has introduced new full degrees at the Fraser Coast campus, including a three-year Bachelor of Animal Ecology and a three-year Bachelor of Business (Tourism, Leisure and Event Management).

More than 15 degrees and study programs in total will be offered in 2017 including the popular Bachelor of Nursing Science. For information on studying at USC go to www.usc.edu.au/learn.
