Graduate values move to Bundaberg

Bundaberg’s Ben Harnell is on his way to achieving his goal of becoming a property investment professional after graduating earlier this month from the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Ben has secured a position as an assistant property valuer in Bundaberg with one of Australia’s largest independent property valuation and advisory groups, Herron Todd White.

Ben, who is originally from the Sunshine Coast, moved to Bundaberg in the final semester of a Bachelor of Property Economics and Development to start work in the Central Queensland branch of the firm.

“I am now just over six months through my two-year practical experience so that I can gain accreditation as a certified practising valuer with the Australian Property Institute,” he said.

“My long-term goal is to become an established property professional within the property investment and valuations sector.”

Ben said the academic staff at USC were flexible and supportive in helping him finish his study externally, after securing his job at the start of his final semester.

The quality of the teaching and the overall USC study experience prepared him well for his early entry to the workforce, he said.

“I found my study program to be very industry-focused and offered valuable practical experience,” he said.

“It provided me with a great understanding of methodologies and systemic market trends and an ability to understand specific real property asset classes.

“The lecturers were all very experienced and it was great to learn from industry professionals who were all willing to give any extra support if needed.”

Applications are now open for mid-year entry for a range of programs at USC.
