Exhibitions celebrating the art of printmaking and mixed media painted works using old documents will open at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery on Thursday 17 September at 6.30pm.

The first exhibition, The Magi and other works, will showcase prints, artist books and recent drawings by former zoological and botanical illustrator, Sunshine Coast printmaker Judith Rosenberg.

USC Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said this exhibition celebrated the difficult and exacting art form of printmaking.

“Judith has exhibited at USC Gallery before, but this is her new, large format work and we are excited to present it,” she said. “It is always wonderful to see the work of someone attaining the peak of their practice.”

The second exhibition, Metaphysical Fishing, is by Tess Baldessin-Edwards, a founding member of the Baldessin Press Studio in St Andrews, Victoria.

Ms Oelrich said the exhibition comprised a series of small collages and mixed media artworks created using old music sheets, math books and other documents incorporating text into the finished artwork.
 
“We became acquainted with Tess when she opened the touring exhibition of her late husband George Baldessin in 2013,” she said. “An artist in her own right, we are delighted to present this series of thought provoking collages.” 

Both artists will attend the opening of the exhibitions, which will continue at the USC Gallery until Saturday 31 October.

The gallery is located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs.

It is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and closed Sundays and public holidays.
