Morayfield resident graduates double degree

Morayfield resident Emily Lane-Chen has graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast with a combined degree in Arts and Business.

Emily, 22, who celebrated her graduation at USC on 1 October, is now working for a leading national plumbing supply company, Reece.

It is a highly-regarded graduate position that will see her experience different roles within the company over the next two years, drawing on the skills she gained while studying a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Japanese) and Bachelor of Business (majoring in Sustainability and Marketing).

“I will be learning all facets of the business, starting at a store level, and then hopefully focus on my chosen fields of marketing or sustainability,” Emily said.

“I have a mentor who I will be in contact with on a fortnightly basis to ensure I am on track, and in January I will travel to Melbourne with other graduate employees to meet with key company stakeholders, including the CEO.”

Emily, who grew up in Toowoomba before attending Narangba Valley State High School, said USC’s accessibility and friendly environment had drawn her to studying at the University.

“The campus has a lovely atmosphere and vibe that made me feel a sense of belonging,” she said.

“The subjects on offer were diverse and the Business courses had a real focus on sustainability, which I think is reflective of the region’s values.

“I found that the teaching was outstanding, and the skills I gained in my degrees have helped me to secure this graduate role.”

Applications are now open to start studying at USC in 2016. For more information visit the USC website or contact Student Administration on 5430 2890 or email information@usc.edu.au.
