Former All Blacks skills coach talks biomechanics

A University of the Sunshine Coast exercise expert will present the science of taking an athlete’s performance from good to great in a public lecture on Friday 7 August.

Senior Lecturer in Sports Biomechanics Dr Mark Sayers will give a talk focusing on the biomechanics of individual and team sports and technique analysis.

His lecture will also give athletes an insight into developing sports specific speed and power.

Dr Sayers’ presentation will be held at the USC Sports Stadium recreation room from 5.30-6pm as the final event in USC’s ‘Friday Night Sport Talks’ series.

To register for this event, contact Tania Stevenson on tstevens@usc.edu.au or 5459 4823.

Dr Sayers’ expertise in sports science has been developed both in the classroom and on the sports field, having worked as the biomechanist and special skills coach for the New Zealand All Blacks.

He has held academic positions in the sports science field since the late 1980s and was named one of Australia’s top 10 lecturers in 2010 by advertising agency UniJobs.

The Friday Night Sport Talks are aimed at people aged 13 and up but are open to anyone with an interest in sport, health and wellbeing.

The talks are a joint initiative of USC Sport Science, Centre for Support and Advancement of Learning and Teaching (C-SALT), the USC junior basketball club (USCBC) and USC Sport.

They were initiated through an Office of Engagement Research Support Grant, sponsored by local sport retailers and hosted by USCBC.
