The Carbon Management Plan (CMP) is the University’s roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 and 100% renewable energy. The CMP incorporates the University’s emissions boundary and carbon footprint. It establishes four themed action plans with more than 20 initiatives.
Commitments
UniSC commits to source 100 percent of grid-delivered electricity from renewable sources by 2029 and we commit to reach carbon neutrality by 2029.
Action plans
The action plans are organised across four pillars:
- Management – Management systems and processes that underpin climate action
- Abatement – Actions that directly reduce emissions and minimise the need for carbon offsets to reach carbon neutrality
- Engagement – Capacity building initiatives to shift behaviour amongst the University’s staff, students and wider community
- Teaching and Research – Building knowledge in areas of climate mitigation and adaptation, and learning from University operational initiatives
Progress towards goals
The Carbon Management Plan aligns with, and contributes to UniSC’s strategic vision, values and commitment to progressing the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's). It sets out clear goals and builds in mechanisms to guide progress towards achieving those goals.
The CMP focusses on the University’s initiatives but the reach is more expansive. Through initiatives we engage and share information with external stakeholders including contractors, consultants, government (local, state, national) and local community groups.
