Climate change is exacerbating the frequency and magnitude of hazards such as erosion, fire and flooding along the highly dynamic coastal zone.
Almost half the global population live in coastal zones, the interface between land, sea and air. There is a high need to further our understanding and develop tools guided by scientific evidence for the protection, restoration and responsible development of coastal communities and ecosystems.
This cluster brings together researchers working across geography, ecology, earth sciences, engineering and environmental management. The primary areas of focus are on coastal mapping, monitoring, conservation, restoration and management.

To facilitate multidisciplinary research into and provide solutions for the very challenging and pressing environmental issues coastal ecosystems are facing.
About the Coastal Ecosystem Management research cluster
Interactions between climate change stressors and increasing human pressures are threatening our unique and valuable coastal ecosystems such as coral reefs, seagrass meadows, coastal dunes, mangroves, wetlands and coastal forests.
