Professor Merv Hyde AM

Emeritus Professor (September 2022)

Professor Merv Hyde AM was named Emeritus Professor in September 2022 in recognition of his distinguished career in academia and higher education, in particular research and development work. In 2013, Professor Hyde formed a new School of Education at UniSC, where he served as interim Head of School.

 

Since joining UniSC in 2008, Professor Merv Hyde AM has supported numerous academic staff in the Research and Projects office with enhanced learning and teaching processes and research applications, and conducted evaluations of several student support programs. In 2009, he established the International Projects Group, winning competitive research and development grants amounting to nearly $9,000,000 within five years.

In 2012, Professor Hyde received both a Citation for Learning and Teaching from the National Office for Learning and Teaching, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Medal. The following year Professor Hyde was tasked with forming a new School of Education at UniSC, where he served as interim Head of School.

Professor Hyde has a strong track record in research and publications, including his 2009 text on Diversity and Inclusion in Australian Schools published with Oxford University Press which remains a top 10 best seller. He is also a reviewer for the Australian Research Council and Excellence in Research Australia. Professor Hyde has supervised many PhD graduates both at Griffith University and UniSC where he continues as an Adjunct Professor. A highlight in Professor Hyde’s academic career was being awarded the Order of Australia for his research and development work in Australia and Indonesia.
