Franklin
A Journey to the Past A Quest for the Future
Franklin is a feature-length documentary that follows environmentalist and eight-generation Tasmanian Oliver Cassidy on a solo rafting trip down the picturesque Franklin River, retracing his late father's expedition to join the blockade that helped save the World-Heritage listed national park from a hydroelectric dam project in the 1980s. The 'Franklin campaign' was one of the most significant environmental protests in Australia's history and serves as an example of what committed and peaceful activists can accomplish. The film includes never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with Uncle Jim Everett and Bob Brown, amongst other key players.
The story serves as an example for those individuals that feel overwhelmed by the issues of today to understand they can make a difference, and a personal journey for Oliver to say 'goodbye' to his father.
