Exercise Intensity for Healthy Ageing Study

EXERCISE INTENSITY FOR HEALTHY AGEING STUDY

Researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast are looking for participants to take part in an exciting new study looking at the connections between exercise and brain health.

We want to understand how different types and intensities of exercise may stimulate positive influences on brain health in older adults – and we need your help! 

Would you like to contribute to exciting new research and learn about your health and fitness at the same time?

Are you:

  • Over the age of 65 years?
  • Generally healthy and able to exercise at a high intensity safely?
  • Able to commit to 8 visits over 6 weeks?
  • Want to receive personalised gold standard assessments of body composition, strength, fitness and health?

WHAT THE STUDY INVOLVES

Participants will attend 3 free fitness, strength, and health assessments followed by 5 exercise sessions with an exercise physiologist.

The total time commitment is 18 hours over 6 weeks and involves:

  1. Evaluation of your body composition via gold standard dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry.
  2. Measurement of your fitness level by determining your peak oxygen uptake (through a walking test on a treadmill).
  3. Evaluation of your current strength and fitness level in our on-site gym, including familiarisation with various weightlifting exercises/equipment and walking on a treadmill.
  4. Participation in high and low intensity weightlifting and endurance exercises with venous blood sampling before and after exercise.
