Master of Education

A master’s degree designed to extend your knowledge of educational issues, deepen your professional expertise, providing skills needed to create a research-informed future for the education sector.

In this program you will:

Study sequences

A four year Bachelor’s degree from a recognised higher education institution in the education discipline, or Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary), or Master of Teaching, or Graduate Certificate in Education (AQF level 8 or equivalent), or similar qualification. For students who have a 3-year bachelor degree in the education discipline or a bachelor degree qualification in a discipline other than education, entry to the Master of Education can be through the completion of the Graduate Certificate in Education, or similar qualification.

Program requirements
  • Students admitted to the program with a completed Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) (AQF Level 8) or Master of Teaching in Education (AQF Level 9) may be eligible to apply for up to 48 units of credit towards the Advanced Education Studies specialisation.
  • For students who have a 3-year bachelor degree in the education discipline or a bachelor degree qualification in a discipline other than education, entry to the Master of Education can be through the completion of the Graduate Certificate in Education, or similar qualification.
  • Students admitted to the program on the basis of completion of the Graduate Certificate in Education will not be eligible for credit. Students will be required to select alternative elective courses at Masters level with Program Leader approval.
  • Please note this program is designed to be studied part-time

  • Completing this program within the specified (full-time) duration is based on studying 48 unit points per semester (normally 4 courses) and following the recommended study sequence
  • The unit value of all courses is 12 units unless otherwise specified
  • It is each students responsibility to enrol correctly according to your course requisites, program rules and requirements and be aware of the academic calendar dates
  • Refer to the Managing your progression page for help in understanding your program structure, reviewing your progress and planning remaining courses.
  • Note: The Master of Education is a postgraduate qualification designed for educators currently working in the field. It does not qualify graduates for teacher registration. Online study requires students to virtually attend weekly live tutorial sessions, generally held after 5pm AEST during teaching periods.
