Evolutionary and Behavioural Ecology
ENS 322 (Offering: 2003)

Description

This is an advanced ecology course which explores the relationships between ecology, evolution and behaviour of organisms. In evolutionary ecology, we are concerned with natural selection and evolution of populations in the ecological sense; the course complements with those concepts discussed in ENS321. In behavioural ecology, we examine the way in which behaviour contributes to survival and reproduction in the environment in which the animal lives. The topics are designed to first investigate the theoretical background in the consequences of natural selection on micro- and macro-evolution, before tackling the current evidence and ideas on proximate mechanisms and the ultimate reasons for behaviour.
