USC Theatre production to open to sell-out crowd

University of the Sunshine Coast Drama students are ready to hit the stage tomorrow night in a sold-out opening performance of the classic Australian play ‘Away’.

The USC Theatre production, directed by acclaimed Brisbane theatre identity Caroline Dunphy, will take audiences back to the long, hot summer of 1967 as three families set out on tumultuous road trips for the holidays.

A cast and crew of 10 USC Drama students are involved in the production, which will be performed at the Chancellor State College Performing Arts Centre from tomorrow until Saturday 27 February.

Media are invited to attend a preview matinee tomorrow, Wednesday 24 February, from 1.20pm.

Producer and USC Lecturer in Drama Dr Jo Loth said the play would appeal to all ages, and brought a humorous touch to big issues of life, death, class and love.

“‘Away’ is an Australian classic with brilliant writing that the students can really sink their teeth into,” Dr Loth said.

“Ticket sales have been fantastic, with a full house for our opening on Wednesday and Thursday night almost sold out as well.”

Performances: 6.30pm Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 February and 2pm Saturday 27 February.

Venue: Chancellor State College Performing Arts Centre, Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs (opposite the USC Sports Stadium).

Tickets: $15/$10 to be booked at https://payments.usc.edu.au.
