Students on their marks for orientation fun

The USC Spartan Court Race and a bracing game of Quidditch will be fast-paced highlights for students enjoying the fun of orientation including Market Day at the University of the Sunshine Coast tomorrow, Tuesday 23 February.

‘Orientation to USC’, which starts on campus at Sippy Downs tomorrow and continues to Thursday 25 February, will welcome more than 4,500 new students as they join continuing students enrolled in Semester 1 from next Monday 29 February.

Aspiring and experienced athletes will line up at 12.30pm tomorrow outside Building D to contest the race branded with USC’s representative sporting team name, the Spartans. Medals will be awarded to the male and female winners of the 410m race between campus buildings and names will go on a perpetual shield.

At 10.15am in the same area, there will be a showcase match of USC’s Quidditch League, a full-contact sport inspired by ‘Harry Potter’ and involving broomsticks. (Quidditch will also be held on Wednesday at 12.15pm and Thursday at 5.30pm.)

This will follow the 9am Official Welcome and Welcome to Country by Lyndon Davis of the Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi people and the 9.30am Class of 2016 year group photo outside the Brasserie.

On Wednesday 24 February, students can participate in the Futsal world cup from 2.30pm at the USC Sports Stadium and the Dive-in Pool Party from 4.30pm to 8.30pm with a DJ and movie screening at the USC Pool.

The Law Students’ Association will run a mini moot at 11.45am in Building J on Wednesday to demonstrate courtroom procedures in USC’s facilities.

On Thursday 25 February, the Student Guild Day will host a clubs and societies fair at the Uni Club from a 9am breakfast until 2.30pm when live music starts.
