Equity and diversity awards to be announced

An Australian-first para-athlete study program and a society for Law students will be announced as the winners of the University of the Sunshine Coast’s 2016 Equity and Diversity Awards on Monday 22 August.

These awards, which recognise outstanding, voluntary contributions that have led to improvements in the lives of others, will be presented at a special breakfast ceremony at USC’s Innovation Centre to mark the start of USC Diversity Week.

USC staff member and Paralympic medallist Bridie Kean will receive an award for recently launching the USC Seeds Program, which provides scholarships and ongoing support for students who are para-athletes.

Another award will go to the USC Law Students’ Association for its work in engaging students with members of the legal profession and the wider community.

Associate Professor of Education Deborah Heck and USC Amnesty International will receive Diversity Week commendations.

The USC Diversity Week breakfast will begin at 8am tomorrow at USC’s Innovation Centre. Media are invited to attend.

The public is also invited to join in an exciting program of events at USC’s Sippy Downs campus throughout the week, including a market day, shared intercultural meals, discussion forums and a documentary screening.

Events will also run at USC’s campuses at Gympie, Fraser Coast and SouthBank. For details, visit www.usc.edu.au/events.
